Message from Linda Beck
President of SLO Village’s Board of Directors
Welcome to 2021! SLO Village starts the New Year with strength from all we learned in 2020 and enthusiasm for the year ahead.
Despite the Pandemic and other challenges, 2020 was a good year for SLO Village. We added new members, new volunteers and a robust roster of online events that bring Village participants together regularly for coffee, movie discussions and informative presentations. We also established a successful collaboration with CalPoly; a class of advanced business students interviewed members and the community about our Village and delivered important information and ideas for SLO Village’s next steps.
Executive Director Kerry Sheets started her new position in January 2020 and promptly tackled the challenge of adding new essential services for SLO Village members, like shopping and connecting members by phone, online activities and safe outdoor visits.
What would I like to see for SLO Village in the year ahead?
I would like to see more members become active in our Village – that’s how we become a community that sustains aging with dignity, independence and purpose. We invite everyone to participate in some way – make calls, write cards, take pictures, organize a chat about books or movies – and people consistently report that they get as much (or more) out of what they do for others as the people they assist. Please let us know what would make you feel more connected to SLO Village members and volunteers, what topics interest or concern you, and how you’d like to see SLO Village thrive. You can contact me at Linda@slovillage.org or Kerry Office@slovillage.org or call the office at 805.242.6440.
We are looking forward to a time when SLO Village can once again gather. In the meantime, please stay safe. Best wishes to all for a healthy and satisfying 2021.
